Art theft. Help! - EDIT: NEWS ARTICLE

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 17, 2011, 4:43 AM
So today, everywhere on DA you could see people warning others about a MASSIVE ART THEFT. I'm gonna sum it all up a bit..

Today, as I woke up, I checked my DA account as I usually do. And I found out someone was warning me about a site called http:// markyourspot.com / They were selling prints and canvas using DA artists works without permission. They just stole them and sold them at around 1000$. Two of my works were being sold there. I was really upset and angry and reported it and sent them an e-mail.

I decided to write a :star:News article: [link] :star: on this just as someone did with www.art4love.com (Please go fav it so that it can be spread faster!!!!) and a few seconds later the site was shut down.

People started to investigate what all this was about and it's seems :star:CHAD LOVE LIEBERMAN:star:, a pretty famous pop-art artist based in NY is running several websites where he claims lots of DA works as his own. But not only that, he also sells them at about 1000$ each. The thing is that this guy usually sells "his" works for 20.000$ and art4love and markyourspot were sites where you could supposedly get a bargain and pay just 1000$ for them.

:bulletred: Here's an article about this: [link]

:bulletred: And... [link] how the hell does he talk about this when he's stealing artworks??

:bulletred: picture of him with his supposed works behind [link]... and here you can see [link] from an artist here on DA.

:bulletred: Both official sites (art4love and markyourspot) have already been shut down but he's moved everything in here: :star:[link]: If you want to browse the site just change the "love4art" word for the number "67.90.44.118" on the url and the link will work.

As far as I know two of my pieces are on that site for sell: [link] [link]

I don't really know how all this will end but I truly wish he pays a lot of money for all this and is judged for being a thieve and making money form others work and effort.. :(

if it is on line it can be stolen..a person in australia..put print beautifull posters..frame them..and sell them at garage fete or local fair..who is going to know....some people have their own business going..such is the nature of the net..credit card get stolen and they will even get your kids if you let them...put a bit deviant art logo on it..they can't take that off..and we still can apreciated your beautifull pictures....

I always put watermarks now. However, that guy also stole watermarked pieces as far as I know. :S

hey apparently one of my pieces sold as prints for a rough total of ~800$ about 2 years ago so yeah, i know what you mean. mine was watermarked too, that didn't seem to stop them. they were selling "limited editions" of prints from artists all around DA and other communities. And they made them small prints like postcards so they could use smaller images. Darn :D

These things happen and will happen, all we can do is push the alarm button and sue the bastards :)
